Swarm, Concept Design, 2012
Inspired by swarm behaviour observed in nature, and in particular starling murmuration, this work is an exploration of the effects of movement on architectural surfaces.
This prototype mirrored wall-covering is engineered to flex and bend in response to data collected from external atmospheric conditions. When sunlight is in direct alignment with the wall as it moves, a dancing swarm of tiny lights are projected. The frequency of these specific conditions occuring mean that the visual effect produced may be extremely rare or be a daily occurrence, but as in nature it is something that cannot be predicted.
